Our Retail Roots Begin
Big V Supermarkets, Inc., the predecessor company to Big V Properties, was founded in 1942 by William and Viola Rosenberg with the opening of Victory Super Market Inc., in Florida, NY, where Big V is currently headquartered. World War II had just begun and Victory was the watchword of the day.

Victory Supermarket Inc.
While the modern supermarket as we know it was still years away, the Victory Market was a self-service grocery store selling meat, produce and eventually, in a farsighted innovation, housewares and toys. William Rosenberg believed that in order to be successful, Victory Supermarket needed to carry things that no other store sold, so he forged a relationship with a large wholesale grocer in New Jersey and was able to draw people from more than 20 miles away to shop in the store.

From Markets to Shopping Centers
The operating company was sold in 1987, but the family retained many of the shopping centers that had been anchored by the previously-owned supermarkets. Dick Rosenberg also developed and leased the Woodbury Commons premium outlet mall located in Central Valley, NY (outside of New York City) before selling it in 1992.

3rd Generation Joins Big V
Jeffrey G. Rosenberg joined Big V Properties in 1997 to manage the family-held shopping centers and real estate investments, and over the next 18 years worked to redevelop and expand the family’s existing portfolio. In 2015 Jeff and several partners created a real estate investment management company to raise outside capital in order to continue aggressively acquiring shopping centers in our target southeastern markets, while capitalizing on the family’s real estate operating infrastructure and on our real estate expertise and relationships.
